It was a close one, but I won. I had just got home from our T-ball game. It was about 8:20. The polls had been close for about 2.5 hours so I thought all precincts had reported. We couldn't find it anywhere on TV or the web. Then, I remembered I had seen passed results on the clerk's web-page. We finally found it. I was down by 12 votes. I thought it was over. I sighed and said, "oh darn, maybe next time." My mom, the fighter she is, asked if I was going to contest it. I said no, if he won, let him have it. Then she went to click off the page and hit the refresh button. She looked again, and I was up by three votes. The race was far from over. Twenty six of thirty eight precincts had reported. We had twelve more to wait on. Each time she clicked refresh I was up more and more. I started to get nervous. I wasn't sure which precincts I would be strong in and which were my weak ones. I kept a humble mind...I knew he could come back ~ stranger things have happened.
I later found out there was a glitch in the counting and they decided to count them by hand. The final count had me winning by 271 votes. 51% to 49% ~ How close can you get!!! But that is how I wanted. I didn't want to win by a landslide. I am very happy with the outcome. My opponent is a very sincere fella with a heart as gold. I hope he remains active in the school system.
I take office the first of July. In a few weeks we have an orientation in Indy. I am very excited to start.
